Tandus Gets Georgia Waste Management Award

Dalton, GA, Oct. 7, 2008--Tandus is being recognized by The Georgia Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association with its 2008 Company Environmental Award, during the organization's fall conference in Atlanta this week.

Waste management practices exhibited by Tandus were the basis for this recognition.

Some of Tandus’ waste reduction initiatives include:

• Floore - the industry’s first closed-loop recycling program that to date has kept over 130 million lbs. of carpet out of landfills and incinerators;
• Retrieve  - recovers physical product samples and sample folders from the marketplace and either recycles or reuses them; and
• Green Samples by Tandus – a reinvention of the traditional carpet-sampling book that minimizes the need for physical carpet samples.

In addition to the above programs, Tandus has reduced its solid waste consumption by 95 percent per square yard and its waste to landfill is less than 1 percent by weight of the company’s total production.

Through its Environmental Management System, Tandus plans to obtain ISO 14001 certification in early 2009 and has set an annual waste reduction goal average of 25 percent in total waste material sent to the landfill from all its facilities by April 31, 2009.
