Stone Care of Texas Expands into Commercial Market

San Antonio, TX, October 17, 2005-- John Gormley the founder and owner of Stone Care of Texas Inc. began efforts to grow his business two years ago by expanding into the commercial marketplace, according to the San Antonio Business Journal. And the new direction appears to be paying off. Since then, Gormley says he has doubled the company's overall revenue. "We're doing as much now on the commercial stuff in the last two years as we do in all the other stuff it took me 10 years to get to," Gormley says. "We've gone from about $900,000 to about $2 million (in revenue) in the last two years." The huge jump in business, he says, is a result of the first-class service that he gives his customers. "We know how to deliver satisfaction. We have a philosophy of giving VIP service: value, integrity, and performance. We live by that creed and I live it and I preach it everyday," he says. "We show up when we're supposed to and we do what we say we're going to do." Gormley's company restores, cleans, polishes and seals concrete, stone and marble used in flooring and for other structural uses in high-end residential homes and large commercial facilities. The company has a total of 19 employees, including Gormley. It also has two offices: one in San Antonio and one in Austin. The company's client list has included members of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, the SBC Center, retailers like Wal-Mart, St. Mary's Hall high school, as well as the Watermark and Gunter hotels. "We've done (work) at the Reliant Center (in Houston)," he says. "We've done some work at the Paul Brown Stadium where the (Cincinnati) Bengals play. We go all over the country." The company also is currently working on a 1 million square-foot flooring project for a Whirlpool manufacturing facility in Marion, Ohio. It also completed a $70,000 project for North Star Mall here, polishing old marble flooring to match newly installed marble flooring. "We saved them a considerable amount of money by matching the old stone with the new stone, and they were happy with it," Gormley says. Earlier this year, Stone Care won the contract to do the flooring for the visiting and reception areas for the new Toyota plant on the city's South Side. Gormley says being selective about the type of clients the company chooses to work with has been extremely beneficial. "We don't want to be everything to everybody. We're very selective in the clientele that we work with, because we'd rather be smaller and efficient than ... everything to everybody," he says. Though the commercial side of the business is thriving, Gormley says he has no plans to give up on the residential niche. "It's very much a part of our business. ..." he says. "We do about close to a million dollars in residential stuff (annually). So, we're not going to walk away from that." Steve Frank, president of homebuilder Burdick and Frank Ltd., says he's been working with Stone Care for about five or six years. Stone Care works as a subcontractor for Frank's company, primarily cleaning and sealing ceramic tile floors. "They're really dependable and good at what they do and they are very customer friendly and customer-service oriented," Frank says. Warren Woods has known Gormley for about 15 years and says he uses Gormley's firm as a subcontractor no matter who is employing him to build homes. Woods is currently project manager and superintendent for locally based Signature Custom Homes, which builds high-end residential homes. He says Stone Care has an excellent reputation in the custom-home community and that he enjoys working with the company. "He's extremely professional and very, very good. It's a rarity (to) find contractors that are professional," Woods says.
