Stock Markets Drop Triggers Exchange Halt on Monday Morning

New York, NY, March 9, 2020-A sharp decline in stock market trading tripped circuit breakers that halted trading on the New York Stocks Exchange opening on March 9.

“Stock trading was halted after a steep decline just minutes after the opening bell Monday triggered a rarely used trading curb,” reports the Wall Street Journal.

“The S&P 500 fell 7% from its previous close to 2764.30. That kicked off a Level 1 circuit breaker, which halted all stock trading for 15 minutes.

"U.S. shares opened sharply lower, then recovered slightly after a trading stoppage, in the face of a price war for oil and the economic fallout from the coronavirus outbreak, with frightened investors seeking shelter in the safety of government bonds.”
