Steelcase to Host 2nd Green By Design Sustainabili

Grand Rapids, MI, June 13—-Steelcase will host Green by Design 2, a two-day sustainability symposium on September 28 and 29, 2005, that will focus on innovative ways for companies to develop, manufacture and distribute eco-effective products and services. The symposium will highlight: - New, sustainable technologies and resources - Environmental activities in emerging markets - Next steps in LEED development - The future of business environments Green by Design 2 is co-sponsored by Steelcase, Grand Rapids Community College and the Wege Foundation. The symposium's keynote speakers include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., environmental lawyer, who was named one of Time magazine's "Heroes for the Planet," and Tom Chappell, co-founder of Tom's of Maine. Chappell's company produces innovative, natural care products and has been named one of the best U.S. companies for working mothers by Working Mother magazine and one of the Top 10 healthiest companies by Health Magazine. The first Green by Design, held in 2003, brought together product and interior designers, architects, engineers, government leaders, educators and students. Expanded this year, the highly interactive education sessions and workshops will explore ideas and solutions to: - Create innovative strategies for environmental sustainability and profitability - Evolve product development processes with whole systems thinking and life cycle analysis tools - Address the impact of building and interiors on land, energy and waste, and worker productivity Educational sessions will be led by presenters from BASF, Cornell University, IDEO, Interior Design Magazine, Johnson Controls, Inc., LHB, Inc., Technical University of Denmark, University of Michigan, US Green Building Council and Victor Innovatex. Green by Design will be held September 28-29, 2005, at Steelcase University Learning Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is located at 901 44th Street SE. The fee is $495 per person.
