StarNet Announces Speaker Series on Avoiding Concr

Ridgefield, CT, September 3--StarNet Commercial Flooring Cooperative will produce a national speaker series called, “Mix – The Concrete Truth about Concrete Moisture.” The series, which makes stops in 11 markets nationally this September and October, will cover how to avoid flooring failures due to moisture and concrete in commercial flooring installations. Respected industry leaders, Peter Craig, an independent concrete floor consultant with the firm Concrete Constructives, and Scott Tarr, a senior evaluation engineer with Construction Technology Laboratories, Inc., Skokie, IL, will conduct the two-hour presentations in each market. Participants can receive CEU credits through American Institute of Architects (AIA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Craig is an independent concrete floor consultant with the firm Concrete Constructives. In addition to having over 31 years experience with concrete floors and general flooring problems, on a national basis his firm has conducted over 150 moisture-related flooring and floor failure investigations. He is a past national president of the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), current co-chairman of the ACI Moisture Task Group of committee 302 on slab construction and committee 360 on slab design, and a member of the ASTM committee responsible for vapor retarder standards and pre-installation acceptance testing of concrete floors to receive floor coverings or coatings. Scott M. Tarr is a senior evaluation engineer with Construction Technology Laboratories, Inc., Skokie, IL. As a licensed Professional Engineer, his principal experience is in the area of problem-solving distressed concrete slabs on ground and floor covering failures throughout the United States and internationally. For industrial slabs, he specializes in comparing the “as-built” to “specified load” carrying capability and developing a rehabilitation strategy to restore “as-designed” serviceability. For floor coverings, his expertise is in determining the cause of the failure and specifying proper mitigation protocol.
