Ellijay, GA, December 16--Springs Industries, a home furnishings manufacturer, is closing its accent-rug plant in Ellijay and laying off 190 employees.
The company, based in Fort Mill, South Carolina, said the closing was based on changes in customer interest. The plant will close on February 1, 2005. Most of the plant's operations will move to Springs' plants in Nashville and possibly Calhoun.
Springs, which also has manufacturing plants in Cartersville, Griffin and Hartwell, announced earlier this month that it would close two plants in South Carolina.
