Spokane Retailer Opens Capel Rug Gallery

Spokane, WA, November 16, 2005--A furniture retailer that's served local customers for nine decades has opened a rug store in Spokane Valley, according to the Spokesman-Review. E.S. Burgans and Sons--a family owned company that operates Burgans Fine Furniture and Spear's Home Furnishings--opened Capel Rug Gallery last month. Capel Rug Gallery is part of a franchise based in Troy, N.C., that has nearly two dozen galleries across the country. The stores take a one-stop approach to rug shopping by offering a wide depth of patterns, colors, sizes and styles, including popular Capel Inc. collections, such as Bob Timberlake, Dick Idol and Colonial Williamsburg. "It's a tremendous selection in all sizes and all forms," said Steve Harmon, general manager of Capel Rug Gallery. Homeowners and interior designers can choose from small, braided rugs that sell for as little as $30 or look at hundreds of formal rugs, including one-of-a-kind hand-knotted rugs, costing as much as $10,000. The store even carries a year-round weather resistant outdoor rug. Those who can't find what they want in the size they want have options to custom-order some styles. Capel has 7,000-square feet of space with 1,000 display rugs and catalogs with expanded selections, Harmon said, and customers can check out rugs to see how they fit with their decor. "Sometimes you can't tell until you get it into a home," Harmon said. Harmon said the area rug trade is growing because a high percentage of new construction homes feature hardwood, tile and other noncarpeted flooring. Some people and designers select area rugs first and build their upholstery and home decor around the color schemes, Harmon said. "It's a good place to start. It makes it easier for designers and other people to pick other colors," he said.
