Spanish Tile Firm's New Product Cleans Air
Alcora, Castellón, Spain, Oct. 28, 2009--Ceracasa, a Tile of Spain branded manufacturer, has produced a ceramic product that removes nitrous oxide (NOx) pollution from the air through a process of photocatalysis, with the help of sunlight and humidity.
The product, called Bionictile, was developed in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain) and FMC-Foret. The product will make its US debut at the Healthcare Design trade show.
The process, using a different enamel and additives breaks nitrous oxide down into products harmless to humans, but beneficial to plants, the company said. Nitrous oxide is the contaminant responsible for acid rain and a leading cause of climate change and pulmonary diseases.
