Solutia Names Doc Award Competition Judges

Kennesaw, GA, July 13, 2007— The Solutia Ultron carpet fibers business has announced the judges for the 2007 Doc Award Competition. The annual competition honors outstanding achievement in contract interior design and product design.

 

An independent jury of accomplished professional architects and designers selects the winners based on projects that orchestrate color, space, form, function and materials with consummate finesse. In addition, the competition honors carpet mills for exhibiting originality of carpet design, overall aesthetic, pricing and usability in the contract environment.

The 2007 Doc Award Competition judges include:

Lucy Aiken-Johnson, ASID, principal, ai3 Inc., Atlanta, Ga.

She has been an interior designer for more than 13 years, leading projects in product design and the interiors of restaurants, corporate headquarters and large-scale cultural arts centers.

 

Mark Hirons, AIA, IIDA, LEED® AP, principal/director of design/corporate interiors, OWP/P, Chicago.

Focused primarily on corporate interiors projects, Hirons' experience ranges from designing world headquarters to creating custom lighting, furniture and identity design for emerging companies.

 

Suzan Lucas Santiago, ASID, IIDA, principal/director of interiors, Grad Associates, PA, Newark, N.J.

Santiago has completed interiors for bank headquarters, law firms and health care facilities, ranging from 3,000 to 600,000 square feet.

 

Anthony Garrett, IIDA, LEED® AP, vice president/director of design for interiors, Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, San Francisco.

Garrett has 33 years of experience in all aspects of interior architecture and has worked with several furniture manufacturers in the research and development of new furniture products.

 

The Doc Award Competition has grown each year, both in quality and quantity of entries,” said Marianne Cone, director of marketing for Solutia. “These judges are well qualified to choose the 2007 winners for an award that has become a benchmark for success in the field of interior design.”

 

The Doc Awards will be presented Nov. 28 in New York.
