St. Louis, MO, October 11--Solutia Inc.'s three facilities that were impacted by Hurricane Ivan on Sept. 16-17 have returned to normal operations.
These facilities are Solutia's Integrated Nylon plants at Pensacola, Fla., and Foley, Ala.; and Solutia's CPFilms plant at Martinsville, Va.
"We are pleased to report that operations have substantially resumed, and most of the damage has been repaired," said Jeffry N. Quinn, president and CEO. "We are very grateful to our employees, contractors, suppliers and customers for their dedication and extraordinary support to get us through this difficult situation."
At the Pensacola plant, certain manufacturing units continued to operate throughout the hurricane. The remaining units, which were shut down in an orderly manner just prior to the hurricane, are now essentially fully operational. The Foley plant, which was also shut down in an orderly manner prior to the hurricane, has also returned to normal operations. These plants incurred some property damage but most repairs have been made. Shipments of raw materials and products at these plants are returning to normal, following a brief delay due to issues with regional transportation infrastructure.
The Martinsville plant, which experienced a tornado spawned by the remnants of Hurricane Ivan, consists of two main buildings. One building, which houses administration and some manufacturing, sustained significant damage but has returned its manufacturing operations to normal. The other building, which houses manufacturing, sustained only minor damage and has returned to normal operations.
