Signature VP Testifies Before Senate Committee
Dalton, GA, July 25, 2011 -- Signature Crypton Carpet Vice President of Sales John McIntosh recently testified before the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee about growing jobs in America, according to a story in the Dalton Daily Citizen.
He talked specifically about how some flooring companies are using American-grown farm products in carpet backing.
McIntosh was part of a panel discussing “growing jobs in rural America,” and the committee members wanted to know more about how Signature and Dalton, GA based Universal Textile Technologies are turning farm products like soybean-based oil into carpet backing.
Signature Crypton is a partnership between Signature and Michigan-based Crypton Super Fibers, which produces fibers that are stain resistant and easier to clean.
McIntosh, according to the story, told the committee thatg the soybean-based product works just as well if not better than petrochemicals, and are cost competitive and renewable.
McIntosh also encouraged the federal government to use the sustainable products in the buildings that it owns, which amounts to about 3 billion square feet of floor space.
“Every square yard we sell, farmers plant more soybeans. We create jobs at farming level, the harvesting level, the shipping level, manufacturing level, the installation level and the maintenance level,” McIntosh said.
