Chattanooga, TN, March 18—Carpet backing producer SI Corporation, will add 100 jobs in a relocation of its headquarters to downtown Chattanooga, executives said Thursday.
SI President and CEO Joe Dana said the new hires and other employees from locations in southeast Tennessee and northwest Georgia would begin moving by late summer to the company's new headquarters in a recently renovated downtown building.
Dana spoke at a news conference with Gov. Phil Bredesen, Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matthew Kisber and community leaders.
Executives of the company, which operates five plants and employs about 2,000 people, announced its research and development center at Dalton, Ga., in November.
SI makes woven and non-woven support and stabilization products, some used in carpet, furniture, bedding and construction materials, site stabilization, highway construction, and erosion control. The product line includes synthetic and steel fibers for concrete reinforcement applications.
SI was founded in 1967 to manufacture sandbag material for the Vietnam War.
