SI Flooring to Raise Carpet Backing Prices in Reac
Calhoun, GA, Mar. 12--SI Flooring Systems is announcing a 10% price increase across its entire product line of carpet backing products as a result of escalating raw material prices and higher fixed costs. According to a company spokesperson, this price increase is effective on all shipments starting April 5.
“We are making this move in reaction to a more than 30% increase in raw material prices since January. In fact, if you look at resin prices from last December and compare them with projected prices for May, you see a 50% price increase over a five month period,” says Kemp Harr, Vice President of Marketing for SI Flooring Systems. “On top of that, add increases for labor, energy, healthcare and insurance and you see why this price increase is so important to the health of our business.
“SI is committed to being a stable, healthy and innovative supplier to the carpet industry, and we routinely experience the challenge of providing the required mix of innovation, quality, price and service to our customers,” continued Harr. “However, we have seen much of the carpet backing manufacturing capacity in a state of flux now with several of the key players attempting to seek new ownership. Our goal is maintain our position as the most stable backing supplier in the industry.”
