Shaw's EcoMade Rugs Get MBDC Certification

Dalton, GA, April 21, 2009--Shaw Living has earned “Cradle to Cradle” silver certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC).

MBDC certified Shaw's “EcoMade”-branded bath and scatter rugs constructed of type 6 nylon fiber.

The one-year certification – which expires on March 8, 2010 -- has prompted Shaw Living to further expand its assortment of EcoMade rugs and continue to pursue cradle-to-cradle recycling and reusing initiatives for small-size rugs.

EcoMade-branded Shaw rugs are all made of type 6 nylon, a recyclable  fiber the company produces in-house. All bath and scatter rugs under the EcoMade label are made from recycled fiber and can again be recycled to re-produce new rugs--a process Shaw conducts at its Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility in Augusta, Ga.

Shaw Living focuses EcoMade rug programs on smaller sizes. Customers can call Shaw or fill out a form online to have the company mail them a plastic bag in which they can ship their used rug to Shaw to be recycled. Postage is free.

Shaw operates 43 collection sites where people can drop off larger used rugs.
