Shaw to Close Spinning Plant
Tifton, GA, August 18, 2006--Shaw Industries said it will close one of it's two plants in Tifton, Georgia, which will will put 228 employees out of work. The company has two plants in Tift County. The company plans to shut the doors of its yarn spinning facility in sixty days. The company's manufacturing plant across the street will remain open. Shaw is the second major employer in the Tifton area to announce a closing. Avondale Mills also closed operations of its Tifton plant, leaving eighty-nine people without jobs. Members from the Georgia Department of Labor are meeting with Shaw Industries management to discuss options for those losing their jobs.
