Shaw Raising Carpet Prices as Costs Increase

Dalton, GA, April 15, 2010--Although sounding relatively upbeat about the residential market, Shaw Industries told customers it will raise carpet prices 5% to 7%, with a minimum price increase of $0.27 per square yard, effective with orders on May 10 and shipments on May 24.

The company cited the continuing rise in raw materials costs and noted that polypropylene is up 125% over the last 15 months. Shaw said polypropylene "is used in every yard of carpet produced in primary and secondary backings."

Shaw said that new price agreements would be available at Shawonline.com as of April 19.

"We are encouraged that the residential market has seemingly bottomed out and is showing signs of recovery," President Randy Merritt said in a letter to customers.
