Shaw Now Largest in Manufactured/Modular Housing M
Dalton, GA, Jun. 15--Calling it “an excellent match,” Executive Vice President Julius Shaw of Shaw Industries stated that a recent highlight for the prominent flooring company was its acquisition of Dixie Group’s north Georgia operations. Although the purchase introduced some entirely new products and markets to Shaw--needlebond carpet, indoor-outdoor carpet, trade show flooring, and acoustical commercial wall covering--it was Dixie’s highly regarded reputation in the RV and manufactured/modular housing industries that was a key to Shaw’s interest. “We’ve been in the manufactured and modular housing businesses for several years, but not to the extent Dixie was,” said Julius Shaw. “These markets were attractive and made strategic sense for us. We’re very pleased about the acquisition.” Phil Barlow, former president of the portion of Dixie bought by Shaw, has been named vice president of Specialty Markets, Shaw’s umbrella name for its newly expanded RV and manufactured/modular housing functions. These functions, Barlow pointed out, represent very different markets but are linked by an important common denominator. “In all these markets,” he said, “our customers require specialized products and a high degree of service. We’re taking the longstanding, strong customer relationships developed by Dixie and merging them with Shaw’s resources in product development, manufacturing expertise, and distribution and logistics networks. The result will be an ability to provide our customers truly exceptional products and services.” With the Dixie acquisition, Shaw became the largest supplier of carpet to the manufactured and modular housing industries. The well-know “Carriage Carpets” brand will continue to be marketed under that label, according to Barlow.
