Shaw Named to Training Magazine’s Top 125

Dalton, GA, March 8, 2007--For the third consecutive year Shaw Industries has been named to Training Magazine’s “Training Top 125”. The Shaw Learning Academy, started nearly 20 years ago as a sales training program, has grown internally into eight Centers of Excellence with the mission to “partner with internal and external clients to help achieve the objectives of the business by delivering world-class development opportunities and training services”.   “Shaw views professional development as an invaluable opportunity for our employees, our customers and the company,” said Danny Crutchfield, Shaw’s director of corporate training and organizational development.  “A number of our learning opportunities are specifically designed to build professional competencies for our employees as they progress through their careers.  We also offer a novel approach to training and development by offering our resources to our dealers across the country.”     The Shaw Leanring Academy offers classes such as “Floor Tech”, an intensive seminar to introduce flooring professionals to flooring manufacturing, and “Floor Tech Too” for more experienced flooring professionals.  Offerings also include training modules via DVD in the dealer Performance and Profitability Kit and interactive learning activities such as EXPLORE: The Game of Flooring Industry Knowledge.      Each year, Training Magazine reviews applications from hundreds of companies to select those who are the leaders in “human capital development.”  This year, Training expanded the pool from 100 to 125 to allow for more global competition and international applicants.  Increasing the pool in this way enabled the magazine to recognize more companies, but also made it more challenging for the companies seeking this prestigious award as they now competed with companies from around the world.  Despite the more intense competition, Shaw Learning Academy continued its track record of success by making the list for the third time in a row.   “We are honored to be recognized as leaders in the field of corporate training,” said Crutchfield. “And, we are pleased to see that another manufacturer in the flooring industry has joined the list.  To us, it demonstrates that our efforts over the past several years have drawn attention to the value, importance and impact of training in the industry and that others in the industry are consequently improving their efforts in this area.  Such efforts can only have a positive impact throughout the flooring industry.”   To receive a “Top 125” ranking in Training magazine, a company is assessed against a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including financial investment in employee development, the type and scope of training and development programs provided to employees, the quality of these programs and how closely such development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.
