Shaw Launches Carpet Tiles in Main Street Sector
Dalton, GA, December 4, 2006--Long-term value, minimal waste, easier installation and selective replacement are just a few reasons for the success of carpet tile. Carpet tile is one of Shaw’s fastest growing product segments, and Shaw is now offering carpet tile through retail commercial outlets. Currently, Shaw’s Main Street brands offer an in-depth selection of broadloom products and indoor/outdoor carpet. With modular tile, Shaw Main Street dealers will become a one-stop commercial flooring source. Besides being attractive, easy to store and causing minimal disruption during replacement, carpet tiles are sustainable solutions. Carpet tiles are an integral part of the Shaw Green Edge, Shaw’s collective environmental initiatives. Main Street tile, like Shaw’s current commercial tile, will be constructed of EcoWorx backing and EcoSolution Q nylon, both which are fully recyclable cradle-to-cradle products and contain recycled content. EcoWorx recently won the Presidential Green Chemistry Award, and Shaw was the first carpet manufacturer ever to obtain the distinct honor. Two other tiles in the collection will contain Solution Q nylon which is recyclable. All products with EcoWorx backing or EcoSolution Q fiber count toward LEED certification in the Materials and Resources category for recycled content. If these products pass the CRI Green Label/Green Label Plus certification, they earn a full credit point in the Indoor Environmental Quality category for low emitting materials. They also may contribute to a point in the Materials and Resources category for local and regional materials, depending on the installation site location. LEED is the Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System and is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green building. Shaw has created a program around EcoWorx with Commercial Tile Express folders holding three products priced in a good/better/best pricing structure. Capital III/Consultant is a core value product with 12 colorations in 24” x 24 “ tile. It is made of recyclable Solution Q nylon with EcoWorx backing. The palette is styled with softly heathered yarns that include a range of warm and cool neutrals. High Voltage is a basket weave pattern visual with a 1/10th-gauge textured loop in 24 ounces. It is made of EcoSolution Q nylon with 25 percent recycled content and is available in 12 colorations. Many tile styles were taken from successful existing broadloom styles. “We’re thrilled to offer carpet tiles to Main Street commercial,” said Steve Sieracki, Shaw’s director of product marketing. “Carpet tiles are experiencing great growth. They have the combination of style, ease of installation and are environmentally-friendly. I’m excited to see the positive response from our dealers.”
