Shaw Focuses on Eco-Friendly at IBS
Orlando, FL, February 15, 2007--Surrounded by more than 1,600 exhibitors in 300 categories and over 100,000 attending housing professionals, Shaw Home Foundations showcased 2007 flooring products and applicable Shaw Green Edge initiatives at the International Builders’ Show (IBS) at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida February 7, 8 and 9.The industry’s largest annual trade show and exposition, IBS brings housing professionals, including apartment and home builders, product manufacturers and architects to experience the latest in building products and educational seminars in 1.5 million square feet of space.
Shaw’s innovative booth showcased several of the company’s latest eco-friendly products including Anso® nylon carpet and Epic engineered hardwood, both initiatives under Shaw’s environmental commitment named the Shaw Green Edge. Anso nylon recently launched a collection of ten LCL high-style patterns influenced by renowned interior designers. All 2007 Anso nylon styles will contain post-consumer recycled content and have the ability to be recycled at Shaw’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility in Augusta, Georgia. “These fashionable and recyclable patterns in hounds tooth, botanicals and animal skins tell the homebuyer that she doesn’t have to sacrifice style or affordability to be a friend of the environment,” says Kathy Young, Shaw’s creative director.
“Evergreen will provide builders and consumers with the opportunity to return Anso® nylon and other carpets containing Type 6 nylon to the same product instead of sending post-consumer carpet to a landfill,” said Mickey Long, Shaw’s vice president of residential flooring. “Evergreen will divert nearly 300 million pounds of carpet annually from the landfill.”
Builders learned about Shaw’s eco-friendly products, specifically the benefits of Epic engineered hardwood, during a live presentation by an actor in the booth space. “The presentation allowed builders to get their hands on Epic, test the smooth tongue and groove milling and really learn why it’s such a great product for the builder,” says Mark Tucker, Shaw’s national homebuilding manager. “Also, we explained Epic’s EnviroCore™, which is compressed wood fiber with unsurpassed structural integrity, impact resistance and moisture tolerance that uses up to 67 percent less freshly harvest wood. There is no acclimation time in climate controlled environments. It is a product that was truly created with the builder in mind.”
“The show was a success,” said Long. “Green building will soon become standard practice, and Shaw is at the forefront of the sustainable revolution with smart, attractive products at competitive prices.”
