Shaw Environmental Marketing Material Wins ADDY

Dalton, GA, February 28, 2007--The Chattanooga Advertising Federation presented Shaw with two prestigious ADDY awards, the gold and judge’s awards, on February 24 at The Chattanoogan hotel in Chattanooga, Tenn. for the company’s innovative environmental brochure. ADDY is a creative awards program developed by the American Advertising Federation.

Shaw designers created the environmental brochure in the fall of 2006 to recap the company’s nearly 20-year environmental journey. “We have worked very hard for many years to be on the forefront of environmentally responsible business practices, and I’m proud of the significant achievements that we’ve made,” said Vance Bell, Shaw’s CEO.

The brochure, made of recycled paper, highlights Shaw’s environmental initiatives, recently named the Shaw Green Edge. Initiatives include interim measures such as conservation, transitional technologies such as Shaw’s waste to energy plant, sustainable products such as EcoWorx® and, ultimately, Shaw’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility in Augusta, Ga. which will give the company the ability to recycle residential carpet containing Nylon 6.

“The brochure communicates that our commitment to the environment is not just a fad or marketing tool. This is an ongoing cultural shift that has been in the works for many years,” said Kathy Young, Shaw’s creative director. “In organizing the information, we had to explain a number of complex initiatives,” said George Davies, Shaw’s marketing manager. “It is an honor to receive an ADDY for a topic that Shaw is so passionate about.”

The ADDYs are the advertising industry's largest competition, attracting over 50,000 entries every year in local ADDY competitions. Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation, local ADDY Awards are the first of a three-tiered national competition. In the first tier, local entrants compete for recognition as the best in their markets across the nation. In the second tier, local winners such as Shaw will compete against other area winners in one of 14 district competitions. District winners then compete in the third tier which is the prestigious national ADDY awards competition.
