Shaw Engineer Wins HENAAC Recognition

Dalton, GA, September 14, 2007--Damaris Robles-Santiago, a quality engineer for Shaw Industries, was recently selected as a Luminary for the 4th Annual Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC) Luminary Honors.

Luminaries represent Hispanic professionals in science, technology, engineering and math.  To be selected as a luminary, an individual must have been nominated and demonstrate outstanding characteristics in line with the mission of the organization.

The role of Robles-Santiago within Shaw is multi-faceted. Her primary responsibility is as an instructor to upcoming Shaw engineers who are studying process improvement techniques.

In addition to her excellence within Shaw, Robles-Santiago is involved in her community. Recently, she helped open a school in Dalton, Georgia, named Whitfield County Career Academy.

“There’s a real need for technical training in our area,” she says. “We wanted the Career Academy students to know they could be very successful with their academic studies by having an opportunity to learn through “hands-on” application of the concepts they’re learning in the classroom.”

Robles-Santiago, a native of Puerto Rico, works to be an inspiration to others within the Hispanic community. “I want the Hispanic community—and other minority communities—to know they can be successful,” she states. “In particular, there’s a growing Hispanic population in our area of the south. I tell students that being bilingual helps enormously in the business world. They can be successful in corporate America.”
