Shaw Earnings Edge Up Despite Revenue Fall

Omaha, NE, Nov. 6, 2009--Shaw Industries had revenues of $1.05 billion in the third quarter, down from $1.35 billion in 2008, according to the most recent earnings report filed by parent company Berkshire Hathaway.

For the first nine months, revenues were $3.08 billion, compared to $3.91 billion a year ago.

However, third quarter earnings before taxes were up from $49 million to $51 million. Earnings for the first nine months were down to $136 million to $182 million.

The company said the results reflect the effects of the ongoing recession and slow residential real estate activity.

Overall, Berkshire had revenues of $29.9 billion in the quarter, compared to $27.9 billion a year ago. Net earnings were $2 billion, compared to $682 million last year.
