Shaw Contract Group Offers School Carpet Prize

Dalton, GA, January 27, 2006--Through the" No Child Left Behind Carpet Reward," Shaw Contract Group will provide free carpet and installation to a school that has achieved the Blue Ribbon designation under the "No Child Left Behind" program. Eligible schools must complete an application, including an essay on why they should be selected, and how they would benefit from the new carpet. The reward addresses the relationship between student performance and the school’s physical environment. By providing sound absorption, comfort, and improved aesthetics, the new carpet will improve the educational atmosphere of the students. “Studies show that both the functional and health benefits of carpet aid in academic performance, so we are thrilled to reward schools that are making significant educational achievements despite resource limitations,” said Jeff West, vice president of marketing for Shaw Contract Group. The Blue Ribbon distinction, a requirement to enter the program, recognizes schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance in accordance with state assessment systems. Applications will be reviewed by the selection panel, and the winner is selected based on the written response and images included with the application.
