Shaw Consolidating Laminate Operations in Georgia

Dalton, GA, May 28, 2009--Shaw Industries will close a laminate production facility in Algona, Wash. by early July.

The company will consolidate its laminate manufacturing operations into one facility, located in Ringgold, Ga., and streamline its processing and distribution channels during the transition, the company said.

According to Bill Barron, vice president of manufacturing, the decision to close the Algona facility, called Plant LW, was driven by the need to increase production efficiency and “to continue to align with the demand levels and preferences of Shaw’s customers.”

“With a majority of the output of Plant LW being shipped to our facilities in the Southeast, we have a significant opportunity to improve the overall level of service that we can provide to our customers,” said Barron.

“Consolidating our laminate production into one state-of-the-art facility will help us to better control our manufacturing, distribution, and warehouse costs while making more effective use of support and technical resources.”

Shaw bought the Washington plant from Formica in 2004.
