Shaw Closing Trenton, Georgia Yarn Facility
Dalton, GA, Oct. 9, 2008 – Shaw Industries said it will close a spun yarn facility in Trenton, Ga.
The closing affects about 440 employees, and plant production will cease around the second or third week of November.
According to Hal Long, executive vice president of operations, the company is experiencing over-capacity in certain segments of the business.
“The widely-publicized downturn in the housing market has caused consumer demand to fluctuate and shift. Changing customer preferences in the market necessitate that the company respond to emerging purchasing trends and decrease its production in areas experiencing significant declines,” he says.
