Shaw Closing Spun Yarn Plant in Georgia

Dalton, GA, April 28, 2010--Shaw Industries Group Inc. will close a spun yarn facility in Tifton, Ga., in the coming weeks, according to published reports.

While demand for flooring products has firmed and even increased in some segments, consumer preferences continue to move toward carpet products other than those produced at the Tifton plant, Shaw said.

Shaw said it is partnering with the Georgia Department of Labor's Rapid Response Team to provide on-site one-on-one sessions to counsel associates, explain benefits, and provide out-placement and retraining. It is also contacting regional employers to help identify future career opportunities.
