Shaw Closing Spun Yarn Plant in Georgia

Dalton, GA, Sept. 8, 2009--Shaw Industries said it will close a spun yarn facility in Ringgold, Ga. in the upcoming weeks due to conditions in the housing market and changing consumer preferences for carpet, according to published reports.

Shaw will give the affected employees, totaling 430, preference for existing and future openings at other company plants and over time expects to rehire a significant number.

Shaw said it is providing immediate support to assist affected employees.

Shaw said it remains confident about the future of the carpet and other flooring business and improving conditions in the years ahead.
