Shaw Closing Georgia Yarn Plant Next Month
Milledgeville, GA, Jan. 29, 2009--Shaw will close its yarn plant in Milledgeville in the next few weeks, according to todaysmgt.com.
For the past 22 years, the Shaw plant has been producing yarn for carpet. Now, they're dealing with over-production, due to current economic conditions bringing less demand for flooring.
"We're dealing with market demands that are changing, customer situations changing," said Al Scruggs, human resources director for Shaw Industries Group Inc.
Shaw will move the plant's equipment to other facilities, consolidating operations. They're planning to shut down the Milledgeville plant in the next 2-3 weeks. Company officials broke the news to 150 employees Tuesday.
