Shaw Acquires Strip Hardwood Firm Stuart

Dalton, GA, April 13, 2010--Shaw Industries Group Inc. said it has acquired the hardwood strip manufacturing facility from Stuart Flooring Corporation in Stuart, Va.

Established in 1922, Stuart manufactures unfinished solid wood flooring and unfinished parquet flooring for residential applications. In addition to retailers and distributors, Stuart customers include original equipment manufacturers that finish products to their own specifications.

“The acquisition of Stuart enhances our solid wood supply chain and substantially increases both our sales capacity and product capability in this segment," said Vance D. Bell, CEO of Shaw Industries Group.

"Stuart’s reputation as a high quality producer is a great fit with our Zickgraf solid wood assets. This is another step in becoming our customers’ preferred hardwood vendor in quality and styling.”

The financial terms of this acquisition were not disclosed. This business was purchased by Tarkett in 1998 and has been owned by them up until this asset sale to Shaw.  One industry insider told us this is one of the cleanest, well run unfinished hardwood plant in the U.S.
