Seven Receive Armstrong Chairman's Award

Lancaster, PA, May 4, 2007--Armstrong World Industries has bestowed its highest honor to 15 employees, including seven from Lancaster County, according to the Lancaster New Era.

 

The newspaper said that employees receiveed the Chairman's Award for achieving an outstanding business accomplishment while demonstrating Armstrong's core values.

 

The award includes $7,500 cash, a gift basket, a plaque and special events. Michael D. Lockhart, Armstrong chairman and chief executive officer, will present the awards during a ceremony at Armstrong Manor.

 

Among the local recipients, winning for career achievement will be William Cornwell of Conestoga, who retired in March as vice president of North American solid wood manufacturing operations, and Marylou Haldeman of Mount Joy, a senior process architect on the corporate enterprise systems finance team.

 

Cornwell led Armstrong's tile and solid wood operations to world-class safety ratings. Haldeman was lead analyst of finance system changes for Armstrong's emergence from bankruptcy.

 

Winning for cost reduction will be Stuart Doumaux of Lititz, a senior principal engineer in building products. Winning for quality will be Jana Keck of Lancaster, a legal assistant in the corporate law department.

 

Doumaux led process improvement projects that save $1.5 million a year. Keck oversaw and improved the document-management process for the emergence and several acquisitions.

 

Winning for customer service will be Jill Smith of Conestoga, an integration specialist for building products' Customer Focus Center, and Walter Thompson of Lebanon, a business analysis manager in the corporate controller's office.

 

Smith's process-improvement effort cut errors by 20 percent and complaints by 30 percent. Thompson calculated accounting adjustments and business projections related to the emergence.

 

Winning for innovation will be Dong Tian of Lancaster, principal scientist for floor products. Tian led the development of new polymer technology for resilient flooring.
