September Hardwood Flooring Shipments Up Nearly 5.

Memphis, TN, October 18, 2005--NOFMA: The Wood Flooring Manufacturers Association released a report on monthly shipments of hardwood flooring products for the month of September 2005. Hardwood flooring shipments for September 2005 are reported at 49,519,000 square feet, an increase of nearly 5.5% from the previous month’s shipments, and an increase of nearly 18% compared to the same month of 2004, when shipments for the year set a 40-year high for the industry. September’s gain compared to September of 2004 brings year-to-date shipments to 2% better than the 2004 pace. September 2004 shipments were reported at 42,001,000 square feet. Year-to-date shipments for the first nine months of 2005 are 393,797,000 square feet, more than 6,000,000 higher than the same period in 2004. Hardwood flooring shipments for the past 12 months have totaled 524,276,000 square feet, about one percent better than the same 12-month period one year ago. NOFMA believes the continued healthy pace of shipments reflect both consumer preference for wood flooring products and particularly strong new home construction and repair and remodel numbers. NOTE: In June 2005, NOFMA began reporting figures in square feet. For comparison purposes, a factor of .77 has been applied to convert previous months’ board footage figures to square feet.
