SCS Now Testing in China Under CA Air Standards

Emeryville, CA, Nov. 5, 2008--Scientific Certification Systems has become the first accredited certifier under California's newly mandated formaldehyde emissions control program to provide California-accredited laboratory testing capacity in China.

Together with its Beijing-based partner, Green Panel Consulting, SCS is now providing a full range of certification services and ongoing compliance support in China.

China is North America's largest supplier of composite wood panel products, which are now subject to new rules administered by the California Air Resources Board (CARB)

The regulations are intended to limit formaldehyde emissions from all hardwood plywood, particleboard, medium density fiberboard, and thin medium density fiberboard sold in California.

Furniture and other finished products made with these materials are also covered under the regulations. All manufacturers must demonstrate compliance with Phase 1 of the program by January 2009, including certification of raw materials by a CARB-accredited third-party certifier.

"Working with GPC and the first CARB-accredited lab in China, we can now provide fast, local service to customers, with no need to fly samples to the USA or elsewhere for testing," said Michael Wolfe, SCS director of business development."

SCS will be certifying mills with locations exclusively in China, as well as working with companies headquartered in the U.S. with manufacturing facilities located both in the U.S. and in China.
