Russian Police Seize Laminate Infringing Unilin Patent

Bertrange, Luxembourg, October 20, 2016—Russian police raided Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk warehouses of Russian distributors Profpostavka and Opt-trading, which import and sell laminate flooring products under brands including Westerhof and Mario Loretto, finding products that infringe Unilin's Russian clic technology patents; during the coordinated actions across the three largest Russian cities, police seized approximately 50,000 boxes of unlicensed glueless laminate flooring.

The action focused on the protection of Unilin's glueless locking patents but revealed that other Unilin patented technologies, including V-groove and embossed-in-register, may also be infringed by the seized products. Unilin remains vigilant and committed to taking any legal actions necessary to protect all its technologies covered by global patents including Russia.

The recent raids followed a complaint by Unilin and an investigation by the Russian police. The seized products will be used as evidence in infringement cases which have been handed over to the Russian courts. The seized products were easily identified as being unlicensed because they did not have L2C holographic labels on. Licensed manufacturers in L2C label countries, including China, must apply L2C labels in their factories to all flooring products which use Unilin's patented technologies.
