Rug Market Attendees Report Brisk Activity

Atlanta, GA, Jan. 21, 2010--Attendees of Atlanta’s International Area Rug Market Jan. 7-10 reported steady buying and selling at higher levels than seen during the previous two markets, according to the Oriental Rug Importers Association.

According to Michael Harounian, association president, “Renewed optimism in the strength of the U.S. economy was reflected in the pace of business at this year’s show. After what was a very difficult 2009, the upbeat atmosphere and enthusiasm shared by virtually everyone in attendance was particularly encouraging. There is every reason to believe that our industry is set for a significant rebound.”

Also reflecting the market’s increased vitality was capacity attendance at the 2010 America’s Magnificent Carpets Awards, where more than 1,000 retailers, manufacturers and importers gathered to celebrate the area rug industry’s highest design achievements.
