Chicago, IL, May 12--Jerry Krull, owner and lead designer of Aspen Carpet Designs in Mokena, IL, is featured on the national cable television program "The Insider's List with Julie Moran" on Fine Living Network. The show will air Saturday May 14, 2005 and several times throughout the year.
"They picked my designs for the unique niche we fill in the custom area rug sector," Krull explained. "Being anchored in the Midwest, we are surrounded by the homes of the original Prairie School architects."
The Prairie School style of architecture grew in popularity in the early 1900's, peaking in 1918. Frank Lloyd Wright is the most notable architect, but many young architects of the time, worked or learned from Wright and went on to design homes featuring open floor plans, vast expanses of art glass windows and use of natural materials.
The architects often designed not only the home but also the furnishings. "Each home was individual and designed for its specific site," Krull stated. "A motif in the art glass would be repeated in a rug design or woodwork."
Krull's firm specializes in designing and creating wool custom rugs for original and newly designed homes that carry a Prairie or Mid-Century (Usonian) style.
The television show features many rugs designed by Krull. A current client, who owns an original Prairie house designed by Walter Burley Griffin in 1905, discusses why he chose Aspen Carpet Designs and how custom rugs are the only choice for his unique home.
Also featured is Krull's simple design process of working with clients all over the world. "The show wanted to focus on how my clients send me pictures or color samples of designs in their home.
