Calhoun, GA, May 4, 2006--Royal Floormats announced that it will close its Calhoun plant by the end of the year, putting 82 people out of work, according to the Calhoun, GA, Times.
The company said changing market conditions lead to the decision to get out of the floormat business.
Company officials emphasized the value employees have brought to the operation over the years and said the decision to stop producing the floormats is the result of continued changes in the industry.
“We understand this will be a difficult transition for our employees, their families and the community, but we intend to provide severance pay based on years of service, as well as job search assistance,” said Royal Floormats’ plant manager Scott Moody.
Royal Floormats is a unit if Home Leisure Products, based in Apopka, Florida.
