Revised Safety Program Aids BPS
Los Angeles, CA, Feb. 1, 2011 -- Bentley Prince Street said it has seen the number of first aid, lost time and recordable injury indicators reduced from 12 in 2009 to four in 2010.
The firm has a 280,000 square foot carpet mill that includes yarn processing, dyeing, tufting and approximately 150 employees on the floor during a shift.
The company said the success can be attributed to its safety program that emphasizes the importance of safety while instilling confidence in associates through education, training, incentives and, ultimately, trust building.
The company said that it has found that the key to reducing accidents in the mill begins with a focus on safety training and awareness. In 2009 BPS made some adjustments to its safety training methods that paid immediate dividends
.
For example, instead of covering a broad range of safety topics with its associates, Bentley Prince Street has consolidated safety-training topics from previous years and allowed its managers and supervisors to provide greater emphasis on those specific topics relevant to the mill¹s operations and its associates.
The new program has the slogan, "Do Not Gamble with Safety."
