Retail Sales Rose 0.6% in August

Washington, DC, September 16, 2025-Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for August 2025 were $732.0 billion, up 0.6% from the previous month, and up 5.0% from August 2024, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. 

Total sales for the June 2025 through August 2025 period were up 4.5% from the same period a year ago. The June 2025 to July 2025 percent change was revised from up 0.5% to up 0.6%.

Retail trade sales were up 0.6% from July 2025, and up 4.8% from last year. Nonstore retailers were up 10.1% from last year, while food service and drinking places were up 6.5% from August 2024.
