April Retail Sales Virtually Flat from March, Up 4.8% YOY

Washington, DC, May 15, 2025-Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for April 2025, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $724.1 billion, up 0.1% from the previous month, and up 5.2% from April 2024, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Total sales for the February 2025 through April 2025 period were up 4.8% from the same period a year ago. The February 2025 to March 2025 percent change was revised from up 1.5% to up 1.7%.

Retail trade sales were down 0.1% from March 2025, and up 4.7% from last year. Motor vehicle and parts dealers were up 9.4% from last year, while food service and drinking places were up 7.8% from April 2024.
