Report: Tarkett to Install New Wood Line in Virgin

Brookneal, VA, January 26--According to Lynchburg, Virginia, News & Advance, the Tarkett Wood Inc., formerly known as Brookneal Flooring, plans to hire 26 people and invest $1.7 million in a new production line. The newspaper attributed a news release issued by Campbell County. Mike Davidson, the county’s director of economic development, said the expansion was a fulfillment of the company’s long-term goals for the plant, located in Brookneal. “We’re very, very pleased they’ve been able to grow and flourish and are able to expand,” Davidson said. “It says a lot about the facility. It shows that businesses can be successful here and it shows there is a good labor force.” Tarkett Wood Inc. produces residential and commercial wood flooring products. Johnson City, Tenn.-based Harris-Tarkett opened its Brookneal plant in 2001, moving into the old Burruss Co. building off U.S. 501. The company changed the Brookneal plant’s name a few months ago, Davidson said. Brookneal Mayor Phyllis Campbell said she was pleased to hear about Tarkett’s plans, especially since another major employer in town, Jensen Activewear, left last year. “I hear nothing but good things about them from the employees,” Campbell said. Davidson said the economic development department will ask the county’s Board of Supervisors next month to consider offering incentives to the company to help with the expansion.
