Report: DuPont To Remain Textile Player Despite In

Wilmslow, UK, Feb. 16--Manufacturing giant DuPont will remain a key player in technical textiles despite the sale of its Invista fibers business, according to a new report by Textiles Intelligence. While DuPont has distanced itself from brands associated with commodity fiber and fabric industries for mass apparel markets as a result of the sale, the report claims, the company has retained some of the world’s best known technical and performance brands and technologies including Kevlar, Nomex and Tyvek. Also, although Invista buyer Koch Industries has acquired a range of technical textile brands including Altara, Aquator, CoolMax, Cordura, Solarmax and Thermolite as a result of the purchase, these brands are not as well-established as those retained by DuPont according to the report. Meanwhile, the sale of Invista to Koch--described as “a bittersweet milestone” by DuPont CEO Charles Holliday--has been called a positive move towards profitability in the report. The sale of Invista for US$4.4 billion is one of the largest deals in the history of the global textile industry.
