Novato, CA, Oct. 20--Smith & Hawken, America's premier garden lifestyle retailer, announced today it has signed its first licensing agreement with TerraMai, a California-based manufacturer of reclaimed wood flooring and decking systems. Smith & Hawken, known for its high quality, environmentally conscious teak furniture, will work with TerraMai in developing a Smith & Hawken line of environmentally responsible interior teak flooring and outdoor teak decking, available in February 2004.
TerraMai is a 12-year-old company dedicated to preserving old-growth forests through the development of distinctive reclaimed wood products. TerraMai sources previously harvested teak, which if not reclaimed would end up in landfills. Once reclaimed, the teak is reconditioned and milled to restore its natural beauty and properties. TerraMai products are available for both residential and commercial applications.
"We are extensively searching for licensing partners in several categories that share our same core values of uncompromising quality," stated Douglas Lauer, general manager of Wholesale/Trade/Licensing. "We are only moving into categories that the Smith & Hawken consumer would expect us to enter." Those categories include products for the garden, backyard, or extension into the home.
Smith & Hawken also recently launched a wholesale division, targeting upscale independent garden centers.
