Ready Named to Tropical Forest Foundation Board
Lancaster, PA, June 27, 2007--Frank Ready, president and CEO, Armstrong North American Floor Products, was elected to the Tropical Forest Foundation (TFF) Board of Directors for a term that extends through December, 2009.
Armstrong World Industries has partnered with TFF to promote responsible forest management. By working with TFF, Armstrong ensures through third-party verification that Armstrong wood flooring products meet the highest standards of sustainable forest management.
Keister Evans, TFF Executive Director, states: “TFF is pleased to have Frank Ready join the Board of senior officials from corporate, environmental and academic institutions. Armstrong, as a leader in the flooring industry, influences responsible wood purchasing practices at all levels.”
Founded in 1990, the Tropical Forest Foundation is a coalition of industry, conservation and scientific leaders working together to achieve sustainable management of tropical timber in the major producing regions. TFF has become widely recognized for establishing demonstration models and training schools to show the advantages and teach the principles of sustainable forest management/Reduced-Impact Logging (RIL). RIL is a system that ensures that harvested tropical wood is removed in a way that does not permanently damage the rain forest. Through prior planning, careful selection of trees and special equipment designed for minimal impact, the trees are removed with the forest left intact for future use.
“At Armstrong, we are committed to protecting forests and to promoting responsible forest management practices,” says Ready.
Armstrong requires its wood suppliers to adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including those covering raw materials and labor. Less than five percent of the Company's wood purchases come from tropical forests. In those instances, Armstrong requires suppliers to produce documentation verifying their adherence to national and international rules and regulations governing specific tropical wood species.
Other most recently elected TFF directors include senior representatives from Caterpillar, The National Hardwood Lumber Association, Inter-African Industries Association (IFIA) and Floresteca S.A. (Brazil).
