Q.E.P. Helps the Do-It-Yourselfer

Boca Raton, FL, Mar. 9--A company that prides itself on low-tech products has discovered the Internet. The Palm Beach Post reported that Q.E.P. Co. Inc., the Boca Raton-based public company that makes tools for laying carpet and tiles, has written a do-it-yourself course on the Web. It can be found at www.qep.com. Once on the site, click on a box on the lower left side called "Do-it-yourself interactive manual." There are sections on bathroom renovations, floor installations, tile replacement and putting up a kitchen backsplash. "It will tell you how to use the tools and there's a calculator on there that will tell you how much materials to buy," Q.E.P. Chairman Lewis Gould said. With the home-improvement craze in high gear, Q.E.P.'s website has been getting a half million hits a month so the company hired Boca Raton-based Punctuation Media late last year to help write the manual. "We were getting so many (Web) hits on our tools, but we were also getting constant questions like How do you use them?" Lewis said. "So we became proactive." Gould hopes the DIY manual will guide customers to a Home Depot or Lowe's store to buy his tools. "The manual also has a stock numbers and descriptions of our tools," he said.
