Productivity Revised Up in 2Q

Washington, DC, September 6, 2006--The efficiency of workers rose faster in the spring than earlier estimated, but still slower than in the first quarter, according to a Labor Department report released Wednesday. Productivity increased by a revised 1.6 pct in the second quarter, higher than 1.1 pct estimated last month. The revision was in line with expectations. In the first quarter, productivity rose an unrevised 4.3 pct, the fastest rate since last autumn. Unit labor costs rose a revised 4.9 pct in the second quarter, faster than the 4.2 pct previously estimated. In the first quarter, labor costs rose a revised 9 percent, the fastest pace since Q3 2000. Unit labor costs were earlier estimated to have risen 2.5 pct in winter.
