Private Employers Add 163,000 Jobs in July

Roseland, NJ, Aug. 1, 2012 -- Companies added a higher-than-expected 163,000 jobs in July, according to the ADP Employment Report.

Economists predicted the figure would come in at 125,000.

However, that's less than the 172,000 added in June, which was revised down slightly from ADP's report last month.

Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees added 73,000 jobs.
Medium-sized businesses grew by 67,000 employees, while large companies with at least 500 workers added 23,000 positions.

Manufacturers added 6,000 jobs, while the service sector employed an additional 148,000 workers last month.

Construction employment also rose for the second straight month, adding 5,000 jobs.
