Potlatch Introduces Enviro-Friendly Floor Underlay

Spokane, WA, July 1--Potlatch Corporation, producer of specialty and environmentally friendly wood products, has introduced EnStron, a particleboard flooring underlayment made from 100 percent recovered wood fiber. EnStron offers builders an economical, solid-core panel underneath floor covering products such as vinyl that require a smooth, consistent surface. "EnStron is not only a better floor underlayment choice environmentally, but also has many functional advantages over materials such as Luan plywood," says John VavRosky, marketing manager for Potlatch’s wood products division. "It’s engineered to offer a smooth, more consistent surface with no core voids or flaws, so builders don’t have to worry about bonding or surface telegraphing problems. EnStron also meets the strict HUD standards for strength and formaldehyde fuming." Unlike Luan plywood that is comprised of layers, EnStron is a solid-core, integrated panel that is not susceptible to delamination, a common problem for Luan plywood in high moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. Engineered using pine and northwest white wood fiber, EnStron is also free of the acids common in Luan plywood that can cause color bleeding and staining of vinyl floor coverings.
