Pittsburgh Flooring Store Closing After 60 Years
Pittsburgh, PA, Dec. 8, 2009--For more than 60 years, the Market Rug Co. has been a fixture in downtown Pittsburgh.
Market Rug will close its doors this month as owner Bob Ginsburg moves from the showroom to semiretirement.
"It's not that I'm retiring and hanging it up because business stinks. Actually, the past couple of months have been some of the better months we've had in the past year, couple years," Ginsburg said.
"It's just that the opportunity came to sell the building, and that doesn't arise very often."
With the closing, downtown will lose its only free-standing carpet store.
Ginsburg's father, Edwin, started the business in 1946 as Wall Tile and Improvement Co.
