Phoenix Intros VECS Machines for Carpet Industry

Atlanta, GA, May 5, 2005 -- Phoenix Automation, an Atlanta-based machine automation company has introduced a new family of automation machines for the carpet industry. The machines are designed for the area rug segment of the industry -- to improve quality and increase the efficiency of manufacturing operations. The VECS 3000 Automated Edge Rug Sewing Machine uses high-speed vision technology for automated processing and finishing of manually cut rugs, dramatically reducing labor costs and waste materials. Phoenix Automation’s VECS 3000 system sews a finished border around an area rug or bath mat. Using a gantry robot with removable platen, the machine moves the rug across an air table to the sew head, guiding the rug through trimming and sewing to the edge coordinates provided from the vision edge control system. The VECS 3000 is capable of running square corners, rounded corners, ovals, and crescents; it controls the number of stitches around the corners, and ultrasonically seals the sew-off. With the VECS 3000 a bias cut rug can be sewn square to the pattern, producing a first quality product every time. Platens are provided to accommodate rug sizes 15 x 20 through 24 x 60 inches, with limitless variations unique to each customer. The machine has whipstitch/overstitch, serge and tape binding capability. All mechanisms are located in a common area providing easy access for thread and tape changeover. One operator can easily run three machines simultaneously, and by selecting the “automatic load assist” option, an operator can tend six machines. The VECS 3000 can be integrated seamlessly into a full line automation system. When partnered with Phoenix’ VECS 1000 Automated Vision Directed Slitting and VECS 2000 Cross-Cutter, the complete line can process all styles of patterned and cut -to-length work, while enhancing waste efficiency and first quality consistency. Phoenix has been designing and building automated machinery for the textile and other industries for the past 13 years. Innovations from Phoenix have already saved companies using the system millions of dollars through improved manufacturing processes, enhanced productivity and superior quality control. Phoenix machines are easy to operate, maintenance-friendly and fully-supported by Phoenix engineers and technicians.
